Youth Baseball Glove Fit: A Parent’s Buying Guide

A glove your player can control

Start with the player’s sport, throwing hand and actual hand fit. Age helps narrow a search, but it is not a guarantee that a glove fits.

Baseball glove size chart by age

Use this chart as a starting point, then adjust for your player’s hand and position. Infielders usually stay at the smaller end of each range; outfielders go toward the larger end.

Age Typical level Glove size
3 to 4 T-ball 8.5 to 9 inches
5 to 6 T-ball / coach pitch 9 to 9.5 inches
7 to 8 Coach pitch / 8U 10 to 10.75 inches
9 to 10 Little League / 10U 10.75 to 11.25 inches
11 to 12 Little League / 12U 11 to 11.75 inches (outfield up to 12)
13 and up Middle school / high school 11.25 to 12 inches infield, 12 to 12.75 outfield

What size baseball glove for a 7 or 8 year old? Usually 10 to 10.75 inches. For a 10 year old? Usually 10.75 to 11.25 inches. If your player is between sizes, choose the smaller glove; a glove that is too big is harder to close and control. Shop T-ball gloves or youth gloves.

Five checks before choosing a youth glove

  1. Confirm throwing hand. Right-hand throw means a glove worn on the left hand; left-hand throw means a glove worn on the right.
  2. Match the game. Choose a T-ball, baseball or softball pattern intended for the ball and position being played.
  3. Check the hand opening. Compare the maker’s youth fit, finger stalls and wrist adjustment. Two gloves of the same listed length can fit differently.
  4. Check control and closure. The player should be able to manage the glove comfortably. An expensive, stiff adult glove may create more work than the player needs.
  5. Compare with a familiar glove. Tell the Pro Team the model and length of the player’s current glove, what feels loose or tight, and the size being considered.

T-ball versus growing players

Our Franklin Air Tech 9-inch T-ball glove is listed for beginners with PVC and soft materials, right-hand throw and an included foam ball. Supplier guidance says no break-in is required. It is a T-ball option, not a universal youth fit.

The 24 Hour Sport fielding glove offers supplier-labelled 9.5-inch Kids, 11.5-inch Teenagers and 12.5-inch Adults variants. Throwing hand and material require confirmation before ordering. Those age labels do not establish hand-opening fit.

What to send us for a recommendation

Share sport, age range, position, throwing hand, budget, current glove and whether the player can close it comfortably. Optional wrist-to-middle-finger length and palm width give consultation context, but we cannot guarantee fit from measurements alone.

Before playing or breaking in

Inspect the glove and confirm fit before use, conditioning or break-in. These changes affect change-of-mind return eligibility. Read the return policy and ask us about missing specifications before ordering.
